How to Build a Supernatural Lifestyle

Does a supernatural lifestyle seem like an abstract and unattainable goal? Are you at a loss for how to begin incorporating Kingdom values of prayer, evangelism, radical joy, spiritual gifts, healing and ministry into your day-to-day life? Believe me, I get it. Sometimes it's easy to get lost into the grind, the humdrum of todo lists and text messages. The routine can become what our life revolves around and so we often forget to invite God to do something spontaneous and spectacular. How could an interruption like that fit into our busy schedule? We can come to church on a Sunday morning, squeaking in the door right at 10am, still sipping our morning coffee and trying to wake up... and then BAM: we're ushered into the presence of the King. We're jolted into a heavenly atmosphere and have an incredible experience ministering to the heart of God, listening to testimonies of His power, praying for each other and interceding for our city and the world. We leave that moment feeling like we're flying high; why? Because we've been practicing the supernatural calling of a believer. We've set aside time to encounter the Kingdom of God as it becomes real and tangible to us. We've let His face come into our focus, and we've allowed His power to do whatever he wants in and through us. So what happen's when we get home? Back to our phones, back to the weekly grind, streaming tv shows, running to meetings and taking out the trash. Did we forget all about the intimate relationship we were so focused on building? Is this our lot in life, to have a once-a-week encounter with our living God, and then sink back into mediocrity as soon as Monday morning hits? Psalm 16:5 says, "LORD, you alone are my portion and my cup; you make my lot secure." The Lord is our portion! Not just on a Sunday morning, but throughout each hour and day. He is as close to us on a Tuesday afternoon as He is on Sunday morning. His presence never leaves us, it is only our awareness of Him that changes. Hear this exhortation! There is a challenge when it comes to leaning into the supernatural presence of God. It can feel unpredictable and unnerving, but when compared to the safety of our routines and comfort zones, which would we rather choose? When we get to the end of our lives, are we going to be glad that we hid behind to-do lists and busy schedules, or are we going to be able to say that we experienced the power of God? I choose the latter. The harvest is ready and it's time for us to seek out more. Now if you're like me, you need practical tips and resources. Be encouraged and read on, my friend! Here's a couple of things you can start right now: The first key to doing this is to spend time with the Lord daily. Give Him your first and your best. Once you've laid your day at His feet, continuing to intentionally seek Him as events begin to unroll will become first nature. Make a habit of asking Him what His ideas are and how He wants to minister and speak to the people around you. Then, answer the call! Even though it may feel like you're having to drag yourself (with no small amount of kicking and screaming) outside of your comfort zone, the more you do it, the easier it will become. Another helpful step is to start practicing in learning environments, safety nets intact. Not sure how to approach one-on-one ministry? Reach out to one of the leaders at Fusion (or your home church) and see if you can shadow them for some ministry and follow their example. Ask questions, invite feedback and become a student again. You can volunteer for prayer walks, trainings and ministry outings, and pay close attention when it's prayer time during the weekend services; as you begin to step out in these low-risk environments and spread your wings with the support of a team cheering you on, you'll soon gain confidence to take your own initiatives throughout the week. (If you're reading this and you have skills and experience, even if you're just a couple steps ahead, I would encourage you to begin passing on your valuable experience and knowledge! There's nothing so beautiful as freely giving that which you have received. Remember, a supernatural lifestyle is more often caught rather than taught, and it doesn't have to be a formal classroom setting. Simply inviting those who wish to learn along for the experience can be a game-changer!)

You might be saying, "Yes, but does it really matter if I pray for healing or exercise spiritual gifts of prophecy and encouragement? Will there really be an impact?" God will always do something with our "yes", even if it looks different than expected. Just the other day we received an email from someone who had attended a service at Fusion back in 2018, and had received a word of prophecy and encouragement during the service. It meant so much to them that they still remember it, and were reaching out to us now to get a recording of the service so that they could hear it again. When they were at that service three years ago, they had recently experienced a traumatic loss in their family and the word given from the front by someone they had never met was exactly what they needed to hear and it brought them great comfort, even though they weren't used to our environment and the way the Holy Spirit moves and speaks. We never know how impactful the things we say and do for others can be, and even if we don't see direct fruit immediately or get the biggest reaction in the moment, we have to remember that it's not about us; it's about what God is doing and how He is ready to love on his kiddos each and every day. (If you need more testimonies of what God can do with our simple "yes", check this post out.) For those of us who are more comfortable watching from the sidelines, a lifestyle like this can seem out of reach. But Isaiah 41:10 says, "Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand." Take courage: we're all in this together and we've got the Creator of the universe backing us up! All you need is a heart that desires to see God move and a willingness of spirit; the rest will follow. Don't forget, the greatest thing about taking a risk is that the more you do it, the easier it becomes! With steady steps, we're beginning to build a supernaturally led lifestyle and be carriers of radical love to people in every sphere of society. So let's get out there and take our motto seriously: on earth as it is in Heaven!
