Don't Call It a Comeback!

Now Abraham and Sarah were old, well advanced in age; and Sarah had passed the age of childbearing.

One of the things you notice in walking with God is how He loves to display His miraculous power when there is nothing we can do to help. Some have called Him the God of the eleventh hour, which is really a misnomer. God doesn’t aim to move in the last moment, but in view of our last effort. It’s not cruel that He waits, it is a kindness because He wants us to see, as well as the waiting world, that He is the only One who gives life, Heath and deliverance in a situation.

We will take another look at Abraham and Sarah in a moment, but let’s look at His moving in some other situations.

Gideon- needed to gather a guerrilla army to defeat the Midianites who had oppressed and terrorized Israel for decades. When he was successful at recruiting the army, the LORD said, “The people who are with you are too many for Me to give the Midianites into their hands, lest Israel claim glory for itself against Me, saying, 'My own hand has saved me.'” (Judges 7:2)

Did you see it? God is allowing Gideon to cooperate with Him, but make no mistake, it is God who is doing the delivering for the purpose of showing Israel in this case their need for Him and to give Him glory.

Zechariah and Elizabeth, too old to bear children, we’re given the gift of pregnancy, and the forerunner to Jesus was conceived.

Then, God topped all of them by creating a child through His word, in the womb of a virgin, young girl who bore the messiah, without any human conventions. Talk about an impossible situation! It was so much so, that the messenger of God, Gabriel said to Mary, after she stated the obvious, how could she get pregnant if she had never had relations with a man? The angel explained how it would happen, and told her about Elizabeth and then said, “For with God nothing will be impossible." (Luke 1:37)

God loves to work when it is simply impossible to men.

You see He is God. His goal is not just you, but His kingdom, His glory, His power. Take a read of the book of Revelation again. God is God. All things are working towards His fame. Now, we get to be a part of it, but He is Ling of Kings and Lord of Lords!

“Thus sayeth the word of the Lord, “I am the Lord your God, and you are not.”

Years ago, right when the Toronto revival was beginning to ripple out, a publication asked various prophets what the word of the Lord was for that upcoming year. So many I don’t recall, but one from Iverna Thompkins has stayed with me to this day. In answering the question, say said this. “Thus sayeth the word of the Lord, “I am the Lord your God, and you are not.”

‘Nuff said.

Let’s get back to Sarah and Abraham, the hope of childbearing had died years before with Sarah’s last menstration and Abraham’s rapidly approaching reality of age. Again, on the surface, it was hopeless.

But, God had given His word and He had made a promise. So regardless of how hopeless a situation might seem, His word was a constant upstream directive in the midst of a downstream torrent. He had spoken. It would come to pass.

Numbers 23:19
"God is not a man, that He should lie,
Nor a son of man, that He should repent.
Has He said, and will He not do?
Or has He spoken, and will He not make it good?

Go back and reread Hebrews 11. God moved through generations to accomplish His purpose. There is no situation that is too hard for God. There is no situation that is too far gone for God to move.

What I am trying to say to you is this:

Don’t give up. God is still at work. When you see everything slipping away, never give up faith that God will do what He said. Tie yourself and hopes to Him, He will come through! He can’t do anything other! He keeps His word!

So, what is your impossible? Where do you think it is too late? Where have you exhausted all your options?

Look there, because that is the next place God wants to move!
